Hawaii advances in MPSF tourney

Lisa van Raalte scored three goals — including one with 44 seconds to go — to help fifth-seeded Hawai'i to a 10-9 victory over No. 4 San Diego State yesterday and a berth in the semifinals of the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation women's water polo tournament at San Diego.
The Rainbow Wahine improved to 20-8 overall and plays top-seeded UCLA today.
Van Raalte's goal gave UH a 10-8 lead. SDSU's Anna Gonzales scored the final goal of the match with less than 30 seconds left.
Angela Turnbull and Leonie Van Der Molen each added two goals for the Rainbow Wahine. UH goalie Sara Gralitzer had 11 saves.
SOFTBALL
FRESNO ST. BEATS UH
Andrea Ortega hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning to lift No. 10 Fresno State to a 4-3 victory over No. 24 Hawai'i in a Western Athletic Conference softball game yesterday at Fresno, Calif.
Fresno State is 43-8 overall and 9-3 in the WAC. Hawai'i is 33-15 and 7-5.
Ortega's homer to left field with two outs gave the Bulldogs a 4-1 lead.
UH's Audrey Andrade hit a two-run homer in the top of the seventh with two outs to close Fresno State's lead to 4-3. After Katie Grimes singled, Tanisha Milca grounded into a fielder's choice to end the game.
UH pitcher Kate Robinson gave up four earned runs, eight hits and struck out two and walked none.
KAIMUKI DOMINATES
Sheena Hussey fired a five-hitter, and Koreena Sefo and Ashley Kiaaina combined to drive in five runs as host Kaimuki beat Kalaheo, 8-1, yesterday in an O'ahu Interscholastic Association softball game.

HAWAI'I-HILO FALLS
Nate Garcia and Joe Supple combined on a three-hitter and Jon Karcich blasted a three-run home run in Santa Clara's seven-run first inning as the Broncos routed Hawai'i-Hilo, 10-0, yesterday in non-conference baseball at Santa Clara, Calif.
Garcia walked on and struck out six batters in six innings. Supple tossed a scoreless seventh for the Broncos (23-16). UH-Hilo fell to 13-24.
HPU SPLITS ON ROAD
Hawai'i Pacific scored two runs on an error in the top of the seventh inning to beat Grand Canyon, 8-6, yesterday to split a non-conference baseball doubleheader at Phoenix, Ariz.
In the seventh, HPU's Kevin Keogh led off with a single, advanced to second on a wild pitch, and moved to third on Andrew Sramek's double. One out later, the Grand Canyon left fielder misplayed a ball hit by Jacob Valentine that allowed Keogh and Sramek to score, giving HPU an 8-6 lead.
Danny Lee batted 4 for 4 and Johnny Gentry drove in five runs for HPU (28-16-1).
In the first game, Matt Fox's two-run single spiced Grand Canyon's six-run, fifth inning en route to the Antelopes' 9-8 win. Austin Stockfisch added two RBIs for Grand Canyon (11-34).
