Hawai'i's per-capita personal income grew faster than the national average in 2007, with the increase ranking among the top 10 nationally.
Figures from the federal Bureau of Economic Analysis show per-capita income climbed 6.0 percent last year, or more than the 5.2 percent for the nation as a whole. Personal income includes wages, bank interest, dividends from investments and rental income.
On a dollar basis, the amount of income totaled $39,239 per person. That was up from the $37,023 reported in 2006. In both years, the amount of income placed Hawai'i 18th among states.
Connecticut ranked first in this category with per-capita personal income of $54,117. Mississippi was last at $28,845.
The bureau also released estimates yesterday showing income for each of Hawai'i's counties in 2006. Honolulu had the richest per-capita personal income numbers at $39,653. Maui was next at $33,383, while Kaua'i came in at $31,377. The Big Island was next at $28,036.
