Rainbow Wahine, Hou remain in first at WAC golf

The University of Hawai'i women's golf team remains in first place after today's second round of the Western Athletic Conference Championship at Sunnyside Golf Course in Fresno, Calif.
Sophomore Corie Hou also remains in first place, shooting a 1-over 73 today to lead at 1-over 145. Teammate Xyra Suyetsugu (79, 154) is in 10th place, followed by Phyllis Lai (77, 155) in a tie for 11th, and Carolina Perez (73, 157) and Lisa Kajihara (81, 157) are both tied for 18th.
Hawai'i, No. 73 in the GolfWeek/ Sagarin Performance Index, has a two-round total of 603 and leads host Fresno State by seven shots. New Mexico State is third at 614, followed by 38th-ranked San Jose State (616), Idaho (620), Boise State (624) and Nevada (630).
Baldwin High graduate Kelly Nakashima is tied for fifth after shooting a 76 to lead defending champion Idaho. Moanalua graduate Iris Ocariza (77) of Boise State is tied for 22nd and Kaua'i's Jennie Pleas (78), a Nevada senior, is tied for 24th.
The tournament ends tomorrow. The Rainbow Wahine need to win the WAC to advance to the NCAA Championship for the second year in a row. The NCAA West Regional is May 6 to 8 at Lincoln Hills Golf Club in Sacramento, Calif.
