Some unsettled weather was developing to the north and west of the state this morning bringing showers and thunderstorms along the leading edge of a front spreading across Ni'ihau and Kaua'i, the National Weather Service said.

The major portion of the weather front is expected to remain to the west of Kaua'i but may generate southeasterly winds and pushing rainy weather over the western end of the state before the trade winds return this weekend, forecasters said.

Here's how the weather looks at this point for the next few days:

Today: Isolated showers, then showers and possibly a thunderstorm after noon. Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall. Widespread haze after noon. High near 77. South wind between 3 and 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Tonight: Showers likely. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 68. Northeast wind around 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.

Friday: Scattered showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 79. East wind around 14 mph, with gusts as high as 18 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%.

Friday Night: Scattered showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 70. East wind around 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Saturday: Isolated showers. Partly cloudy, with a high near 80. East wind around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 24 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.
