Waikiki car-ramming suspect arrested

Advertiser Staff

Police today arrested an 'Ewa man on suspicion that he intentionally rear-ended two vehicles in Waikiki.

The man was booked for operating a vehicle under the influence of an intoxicant in addition to two counts of first-degree criminal property damage at 1:20 a.m.

Police said the suspect was driving a truck which pulled up behind a cab at 11:41 last night. The suspect began honking his horn and flashing his truck lights so the male cab driver, 45, pulled over to the curb and stopped.

The cab driver told police the man followed him and drove the truck into his rear bumper before reversing and repeating the action in an attempt to push the cab forward.

The suspect then went after a passing Honda sedan driven by a 29-year-old man. He allegedly drove the truck into the rear of the Honda, when it stopped for a red light. The suspect reversed before driving the truck at the car again, this time pushing it forward about 50 feet.

The suspect fled the scene and was later arrested at 300 Ala Moana.

The two victim drivers were not injured.
