Boston Marathon to put ads at start, finish
Associated Press
BOSTON — The Boston Marathon is breaking with a 112-year tradition, putting corporate ads at the start and finish lines of the world's oldest marathon.
Guy Morse, executive director of the Boston Athletic Association, told The Associated Press that logos for race sponsors Adidas and John Hancock Financial Services will be painted on the ground and posted near the VIP seating area.
Morse says event organizers are feeling the pressure to recruit elite athletes and put on a first-class event, and that means keeping sponsors happy.
No new money was exchanged for the ads.
