Oshiro named county housing administrator
Wayde Oshiro has been named housing administrator for the county Department of Housing and Human Concerns.
Oshiro, who starts his new post Wednesday, will oversee all of the housing-related functions and programs within the Housing Division, including the Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program and other federal programs, and the county's Affordable Housing Fund Program and First Time Homebuyer's Downpayment Assistance Program.
Oshiro also will monitor housing developments with affordable-housing requirements; review and comment on requests for residential building and special use permits, preliminary subdivision approval, zoning changes, and draft environmental assessments; and provide management oversight of the county's affordable rental project, Komohana Hale in Lahaina.
He is a 16-year veteran of the Housing Division and for the past 10 years was program coordinator of the county's HOME program, which received more than $8 million in federal funds to provide affordable housing and downpayment assistance to low-income families.
