A man accused of murder will be arraigned today at Circuit Court.
Patrick W. Deguair Jr., 30, who is represented by attorney Michael Green, is expected to plead not guilty to shooting Jermaine Michael Duckworth, 24, whose body was found below a cliff at Keawa'ula (Yokohama Bay) on March 27.
Deguair is also charged with kidnapping, use of a prohibited weapon (silencer), two firearms-related offenses and drug offenses.
He is being held in lieu of $1 million bail at the O'ahu Community Correctional Center.
TELLER THWARTS BANK ROBBERY
A teller foiled a bank robber's written demand for cash Friday by asking the man for identification.
The robber, nervous about the lack of immediate compliance, fled from American Savings Bank's branch at 1600 Ala Moana without any money, police said. No weapon was seen and no injuries reported in the 3:50 p.m. robbery.
Although no cash was stolen, the case is classified as a first-degree robbery of a bank. It was O'ahu's ninth reported bank robbery of 2008, six of which have been resolved with suspects charged.
CANDLE THE CAUSE OF WAHIAWA FIRE
A candle started a fire yesterday at 1100 Neal Ave. in Wahiawa that destroyed three bedrooms and a living room, Honolulu Fire Department officials said.
Investigators estimated damage at $120,000, according to HFD spokesman Capt. Robert Main.
A family of five was displaced by the 11:12 a.m. fire, which was reported under control at 11:21 a.m., said Main.
The fire rendered the three-bedroom home uninhabitable, but did not destroy it, Main said.
CRASH VICTIM DIED OF HEART ATTACK
An autopsy has determined that Robert B. Tsukazaki of Hilo died of a heart attack and not from injuries suffered in a one-vehicle crash Thursday on the Big Island's Mamalahoa Highway near Pu'uanahulu in North Kona.
Tsukazaki, 60, was a prominent Hilo land-use attorney.
As a result of the autopsy findings, the Big Island's traffic fatality count was reduced from 12 to 11, police said.
