Ala Moana bank robber flees empty-handed

A teller foiled a bank robber's written demand for cash Friday by asking the man for identification.
The robber, nervous about the lack of immediate compliance, fled from American Savings Bank's branch at 1600 Ala Moana without any money, police said. No weapon was seen and no injuries were reported in the 3:50 p.m. robbery.
Although no cash was stolen, the case is classified as a first-degree robbery of a bank. It was O'ahu's ninth reported bank robbery of 2008, six of which have been resolved with suspects charged.
