$3M released for Kauai hospital improvements

HONOLULU – Gov. Linda Lingle has released a little more than $3 million for improvements to Kaua'i Veterans Memorial Hospital and Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital, the two public health facilities on Kaua'i overseen by the Hawai'i Health Systems Corporation.

"Our administration remains committed to improving access to healthcare, including maintaining and enhancing our medical facilities and infrastructure," Lingle said in a news release issued by her office. "These two projects will provide Kaua'i with needed hospital upgrades that will benefit patients and staff."

Kaua'i Veterans Memorial Hospital ($1,600,000) :

  • $950,000 will used to pay for design, construction and equipment for electrical upgrades.

  • $650,000 will be used for design, construction and equipment to replace the hospital's emergency generator.

    Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital ($1,407,000)

  • $777,000 will pay for design and construction to replace hospital windows.

  • $630,000 will cover design, construction and equipment for electrical upgrades.

    Design work for the projects is scheduled to be completed this month. Construction is scheduled to begin next month and be completed in December.
