Former University of Hawai'i quarterback Colt Brennan said he underwent successful arthroscopic surgery yesterday to repair a partially torn labrum in his right hip.
"It was a complete success," Brennan said of the 2-hour operation at Vail Valley Surgery Center. An hour after the surgery, Brennan said, he rode a stationary bicycle for 20 minutes.
"It was a little sore, but it wasn't bad, and I did it," Brennan said.
Despite suffering the injury during the first practice of the Senior Bowl in January, Brennan competed in passing drills at the NFL Scouting Combine in February and Pro Day last week. His agents revealed the injury to scouts just prior to the Pro Day weigh-in session.
Orthopedic surgeon Dr. Warren Kramer accompanied Brennan to Vail. Renowned hip specialist Dr. Marc Philippon performed the surgery.
"They saw exactly what was the issue and they cleared up everything," Brennan said. "The doctor came in and said: 'I really think you did the right thing. I can guarantee you'll be better than ever and you'll never have to worry about this ever again.' "
Brennan said he expects to begin throwing from a stationary position and doing upper-body weightlifting in two weeks. He said he should be able to run sprints at full speed in eight weeks.
"Truth is, come July, I'll be better than I've ever been, as far as physically," he said.
