TONIGHT'S MUST-SEE

"NCIS," 7 p.m., CBS. Even during months of reruns, this show has had strong ratings. Now it returns to new episodes, with seven to air. Tonight, a stakeout team sees a murder. Also, Ducky has a secret.

"Independent Lens: Water Flowing Together," 10 p.m., PBS. Jock Soto was 14, fresh from the expanse of a Navajo reservation, when his world changed: He was alone in New York City, on a ballet scholarship. He would rarely return home. Within two years, he was chosen by dance great George Balanchine. Over the next 24 years, he was the leading man for New York City Ballet choreographers. Here is a warm retirement portrait of a quiet man who expresses himself brilliantly through movement.

OF NOTE

"Walk the Line" (2005), 4 p.m., FX. Johnny Cash's life seemed to be a movie in the making. Now it has been told well, focusing on his romance with June Carter. Joaquin Phoenix is good as Cash; Reese Witherspoon is brilliant (and won an Oscar) as Carter.

"American Idol," 7 p.m., Fox. As preparation for Wednesday's "Idol Gives Back," the eight surviving singers are supposed to do songs inspirational to them. We'll have to wait until Thursday to learn who has been voted out.

"The Biggest Loser," 7 p.m., NBC. The final four return from Australia and learn that viewers will vote after the show to drop one of them. That leads to next week's finale.

"Secret Talents of the Stars" debut, 9 p.m., CBS. This seven-week competition puts celebrities in new turf. Actor George Takei sings country; country singer Clint Black does stand-up comedy. There's much more, including pro wrestler Ric Flair dancing salsa and skater Sasha Cohen as a contortionist with the New Shanghai Circus.

"The Riches," 7 and 8 p.m., FX. At the end of last week's episode, Dahlia turned herself in to her parole officer. Tonight, she learns that going straight isn't that easy.
