The Kahului swimming pool is closed this week to accommodate American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor training to certify county lifeguards to teach Learn-to-Swim classes.

The pool also may have to close this weekend due to staff shortages, the county said.

The first series of one-hour Learn-to-Swim classes will begin Tuesday at Kahului pool. Level I classes are for children uncomfortable putting their face in the water, and Level II classes are for beginners who can put their face in the water.
