Two teams from 'Iolani School are going on to a regional competition after winning the 2008 Island Insurance Companies Economics Challenge.
It was the fourth consecutive year that 'Iolani students were victors in the competition hosted by the Hawaii Council on Economic Education. About 160 students from six Hawai'i high schools competed this year, answering questions testing their understanding of economics and their reasoning ability.
The teams will represent the state at the National Council on Economic Education/Goldman Sachs Foundation Western Regional Competition later this month, going up against teams from Arizona, California, Colorado, Oregon, Utah and Washington.
Members of 'Iolani's teams are Jesse Franklin-Murdock, Gian Garduque, Leslie Kawano, Michelle Ky, Megan Nakamoto, Jon Fung, Lauren Ige, David Jaress, Reid Kawamoto and Braxton Sato.
The Hawaii Council on Economic Education promotes teaching of economics in the state's public and private schools.
