Art on the Block festivities April 19 on Honolulu's Civic Center grounds

Art on the Block, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. April 19 on the City & County of Honolulu's Fasi Civic Center grounds surrounding the Skygate sculpture, will showcase an array of Island art reflecting Hawai'i's artistic heritage.
The event is part of the 40th anniversary celebration of the City's Commission on Culture and the Arts. The first-time showing is being coordinated by the Mayor's Office of Culture and the Arts.
A diverse form of art — performing, culinary and static — will be showcased.
Participants include Michael Lee and his hand-painted dishes of Hawaiian flowers; John Johnson's underwater photography; Jim Brorbaugh's acrylic and watercolor paintings; June Yoshinaga's origami framed art; James Kojiro's unique ukuleles; Kyle Ino and his hand-made fused glass jewelry; drawings and paintings from Moana Meyer; woodturning bowls from Francis Clemente; photography by Glenn Poulain; wood lamps and furniture by Cathy Berenberg; drawings and paintings by Sheree Pokipala; and original photography from Nathan Yuen.
Art on the Block also will offer free concerts tapping diverse ethnicities that make up Hawai'i, including Hawaiian, Japanese, Native American, Chinese, Thai, Brazilian, Greek and others. Among those lined up: "American Idol" finalist Jasmine Trias, singer-actress Kristian Lei, Chum Sa rung Rainbow & Tuhoolim Korean Traditional Drumming, Gee Yung International Martial Arts Dragon & Lion Dance and others.
There will be food samples for a small fee, showcasing the flavors of Hawai'i, including Portuguese pastries, Japanese specialties and Cuban cuisine.
