HAWAII BRIEFS
At least 52 treated for jellyfish stings

Advertiser Staff

City lifeguards found more than 400 box jellyfish in Waikiki yesterday, and lifeguards treated 52 people for stings as of 3 p.m., said Bryan Cheplic, spokesman for Emergency Services.

No jellyfish were reported on the west side of O'ahu, Cheplic said.

The monthly influx was at its peak yesterday, and will continue today. Oceangoers, particularly on south and west beaches, are advised to use caution if entering the water.

Ocean Safety has a new Web site, 808jellyfish.com, with information on jellyfish arrival patterns, how to deal with jellyfish stings and other tips.
