Hayashi in lead of Aloha PGA

Defending champion Kevin Hayashi opened with a 3-under-par 68 yesterday to take a three-shot lead after the first round of the Aloha PGA Professional Championship and Stroke Play Championship.
The two events are being held at the same time at Royal Ka'anapali Course, with 51 Aloha Section PGA pros competing in the fourth major championship of the year. Hayashi is a three-time Stroke Play champion.
Ron Castillo Jr. is second, at 72, and brother Michael Castillo is another shot back. Larry Stubblefield (73) is first in the Senior Division, with Jeff Jackson two shots back. AJ Molitor shot 78 and is in first in Super Seniors.
Scores the first two days also count toward qualifying in the 41st PGA Professional National Championship, next summer in Georgia. The section gets three spots in the $550,000 event.
The 33rd Stroke Play Championship runs 54 holes, teeing off at 7 a.m. today and tomorrow. The purse is $18,000.
WILSON TRIUMPHS
Grace Wilson shot a 73 to win the championship flight by a stroke over Hazel Masuda yesterday in the Hawaii State Women's Golf Association Senior Women's Championship at Barbers Point.
Other flight winners were: Maydelle Alo (A flight, 76), Joanne Zehngraffe (B, 72), Bev Kim (C, 75), Keiko Keel (D, 68) and Connie Dedona (E, 68).
Mia Hew's 78 won overall low gross honors, and Dolores Au's 66 won low net.
SURFING
SULLIVAN ADVANCES
In the only heat of the day, Pancho Sullivan of Sunset Beach advanced to the third round of the Quiksilver Pro France yesterday at Hossegor, France.
Sullivan defeated Australia's Mick Lowe, 10.07-9.17, in the second round. That was the first heat of the day, and the rest of the day was postponed when strong winds started blowing onshore.
Kaua'i's Andy Irons advanced to the third round on Sunday. Two other Hawai'i surfers — Bruce Irons and Fred Patacchia Jr. — have yet to complete their respective second-round heats.
The contest is the seventh of 10 stops on the 2007 World Championship Tour.
