A man weighing 250 to 260 pounds, who is accused of murdering his estranged wife, allegedly positioned his body on top of hers, forcing her to lie face down in muddy grass for five to 10 minutes, according to a police affidavit filed at Honolulu District Court,

Michael Schuette, 45, said he did it so his wife, who had filed for divorce, " ... would be forced to listen to the various things that he wanted to say to her," the document said.

Victoria Schuette, 49, who weighed about 130 pounds, died of "mechanical asphyxia/overlay," according to the medical examiner. The manner of death is homicide, according to the autopsy.

Michael Schuette was charged with second-degree murder Saturday and is being held in lieu of $500,000 bail. His initial appearance was yesterday and a preliminary hearing is scheduled for tomorrow at District Court.

According to the affidavit, the couple argued in the backyard of their 'Ewa Beach home at 91-1178 Ho'omahana St. on Sept. 10. Victoria Schuette had repeatedly asked her husband to move out of the home and Michael Schuette told police he became upset when she began removing plants he had planted that day.

Police responded to a 911 call from Michael Schuette at 8:29 p.m. Sept. 10 and found Victoria Schuette unconscious in the backyard. She was pronounced dead at 9:20 p.m. at Hawaii Medical Center West.

Michael Schuette denied striking his wife with an object but could not explain how she received injuries to the top, left side and back of her head, the affidavit said.
