MILILANI — Taz Stevenson scored on a 1-yard run with 4:24 left in the game and Mike Among-Serrao rushed for 103 yards on 19 carries to lift Mililani to a 21-14 win over 'Aiea in an O'ahu Interscholastic Association Red West game at John Kauinana Stadium last night.

Mililani, ranked fourth in The Advertiser's statewide poll of coaches and media, improved to 5-1 overall, 3-1 in league play before a homecoming crowd of about 2,300. 'Aiea dropped to 3-3 and 2-2.

The Trojans defense forced Na Ali'i to punt from their own 21-yard line following an incomplete pass on third-and-14. Cody Kilthau received the punt near the Mililani 35, and followed Stevenson to the right and cut upfield, covering 40 yards and setting up the Trojans with first-and-10 from the 'Aiea 25.

A mishandled snap on first down led to a loss of 10 yards, but Mililani turned to its most dangerous weapon — Stevenson. The sophomore receiver caught a 19-yard screen pass from Funakoshi on the next play to move the Trojans to the 16.

Among-Serrao converted with a 7-yard carry on third-and-1 and followed with an 8-yard scamper down to the one. Stevenson scored on the next play.

"He's a guy who understands what we're trying to do on offense," Mililani head coach Darnell Arceneaux said of Among-Serrao. "He does a good job on the reads and understands when to cutback. He's dedicated to his craft."

'Aiea's spread offense gave the Trojans fits all night. Quarterback Keenan Naeole threw for 304 yards on 26-of-44 passing with no interceptions.

"You can't stop that offense," said Arceneaux. "They're real dangerous, they have better speed than anyone. We were trying to keep the big plays to a minimum."

'Aiea scored first on its longest play from scrimmage, a 55-yard touchdown from Naeole to James Buchanan. Buchanan, who entered the game as the state's leading receiver, finished with five receptions for 121 yards. Daniel Liilii had a game-high nine catches for 102 yards.

Funakoshi scored on a 33-yard quarterback keeper off left tackle in the first quarter to tie it at seven.

Kawika Ornellas blocked an 'Aiea punt and Among-Serrao scored on the next play, a 31-yard run with 11:12 left before halftime. Mililani led 14-7 at the intermission.

"That's one thing we want to establish," said Arceneaux. "We look for an edge on special teams. We spend lots of time there."

'Aiea evened the scored on a 2-yard run by Christian Kupau with 2:21 left in the third.
