'Iolani surprisingly fell behind Pac-Five in the first half last night, and needed a big play to turn things around.

Quarterback Kela Marciel and wide receiver Lionel Fujioka provided it — an 80-yard touchdown pass — and the play ignited an unanswered scoring run in a 27-12 victory at Aloha Stadium.

'Iolani improved to 3-2 overall and 2-0 in the Interscholastic League of Honolulu; Pac-Five dropped to 1-4 and 0-2.

Pac-Five led 12-0 after Phillip Sarubbi's 9-yard run off the left side with 3:17 left before halftime, capping a 12-play, 85-yard drive.

It didn't take 'Iolani long to answer.

On its first play after the ensuing kickoff, Marciel scrambled away from pressure and hit Fujioka in stride over the middle of the field at the Wolfpack 35. Kodi Look's conversion kick made it 12-7.

"They just scored and we came right back in one play and we were able to turn it around right there," said 'Iolani coach Wendell Look.

Raiders slot back Reid Furukawa caught a 29-yard touchdown pass from Marciel to give 'Iolani its first lead at 13-12 with 6:12 left in the third. Justin Yamamoto scored on a 3-yard run later in the period, and Marciel scored on a 2-yard run in the fourth.

"A tough win, but it was good," Look said. "It was nice to see them keep their composure and come from behind."

In the second half, the Raiders defense forced five punts, recovered a fumble and forced Pac-Five to turn the ball over on downs.

"They didn't do nothing differently," said Wolfpack coach Kip Botelho. "We just couldn't make the plays on offense. Our defense is giving us opportunities and we can't move the ball. We missed some blocks, played too high up front. You saw our receivers not making plays when they're supposed to make plays."

'Iolani's Yamamoto gained 80 of his 104 yards in the second half as the Raiders opened up holes on draw plays.

"For us, we need to be able to run the ball," Look said. "We can't just rely on Kela, especially the way (the Wolfpack) were playing up front."

Pac-Five was able to get pressure on Marciel by rushing three and dropping eight against the Raiders run-and-shoot offense.

"Our three defensive linemen, we figured they could handle 'Iolani's front," Botelho said. "Their thing is throwing the ball so we wanted to cover every zone, and it was effective. When your offense is three-and-out, it's tough on those guys. They have to stay in there the whole game."

Marciel finished 15 of 25 for 235 yards, but threw three interceptions.

"They are a little bit bigger, they blocked some passing lanes there," Look said. "He kind of got out of his rhythm a little bit."

Marciel's first pass of the game was returned 20 yards for a score by Pac-Five defensive back Devon Takenaka with 6:45 left in the first quarter.

"Our defense got that first pick; every week we're scoring on defense," Botelho said. "When your offense can manufacture only one touchdown every week, this is the outcome. It's going to be like this all year if our offense can't move the ball and put it in the end zone. Period."

Pac-Five finished with 211 yards of total offense. Wolfpack quarterbacks were 6 of 25 for 145 yards.
