Animals blessed at St. Clement's

The Parish of St. Clement's, 1515 Wilder Ave., will host a blessing of the animals service at 10:15 a.m. Oct. 7.
Dogs, cats, birds, reptiles and even stuffed animals will be given a warm welcome by the Rev. Liz Zivanov. Afterward there will be a bake sale with both human and animal treats. Parking is free but space is limited.

SHINTO FESTIVAL IS JUST FOR KIDS
The Hawaii Kotohira Jinsha-Dazaifu Tenmangu, the Shinto shrine at 1239 Olomea St., will hold a Shichigosan children's festival on Nov. 15.
Shichigosan is a traditional Japanese event celebrated by boys ages 3 and 5, and girls ages 3 and 7. Children dressed in kimono visit a shrine to report their healthy development and to receive divine blessings.
There will be kimono rentals, a blessing, omamori (good luck items) and goodie bags.

HIRONO SPEAKS AT INTERFAITH DINNER
The Interfaith Alliance's annual celebration dinner is set for 6 p.m. Oct. 7.
Keynote speaker will be U.S. Rep. Mazie Hirono, who will talk on "How Safe are Our Nation's Freedoms."
Also, Cameron Kubota and Ryan Nakasone will report on their national interfaith youth leadership camp experience and four community awards will be presented.
The event will be held at Honpa Hongwanji Betsuin, 1727 Pali Highway.
Cost: $15 ($10 students, children free), includes a vegetarian buffet.

SERIES FOCUSES ON GETTING ORGANIZED
Laurie Long, a former Hawai'i resident, will give a series of free, two-hour workshops on "Be Prepared, Get Organized & Stop Procrastinating."
The workshops are being presented next month by the Waterhouse Lecture Series. The dates are:
RWANDA SURVIVOR RETURNING TO ISLES
Immaculée Ilbagiza, whose story of survival during the Rwanda massacre in 1994 was told in the documentary and book "Left to Tell," is returning to Hawai'i for several speaking engagements.
So far, she's slated to speak on Maui on Jan. 13, and at the Blaisdell Concert Hall Jan. 14-15.
More details will be available closer to her arrival.
