Caucus elects new leadership

The Hawai'i Women's Political Caucus has announced the results of elections for its board of directors.
The following officers and directors were elected to two-year terms, 2007 to 2009, at a recent annual meeting and board meeting.
At the reception, Senate President Colleen Hanabusa and Senate Ways and Means Chair Roz Baker were honored for their outstanding leadership as progressive women holding elective office, according to a news release issued by the HWPC.
State Senator Jill Tokuda, and State Representatives Della Au Belatti and Karen Awana shared their impressions as freshmen legislators. Congresswoman Mazie Hirono spoke of her experiences as a first-term congresswoman.
Dr. Donnis Thompson was acknowledged as a former HWPC president and women's athletics trailblazer whose sculpture will be dedicated in late October at the University of Hawai'i.
The HWPC was established in 1981 as a multi-partisan organization committed to increasing women's participation in the political process and increasing their representation in elected and appointed office. HWPC says it is dedicated to equality in employment, stopping violence against women, and improving the health and well-being of women and families.
Correction: R. Carolyn Wilcox was elected treasurer of the Hawai‘i Women’s Political Caucus. Her name was omitted from election results in a previous version of this story.
