TONIGHT'S MUST-SEE

"Back to You" debut, 7 p.m., Fox. Chuck Darling (Kelsey Grammer) is a TV anchor, filled with ego and ambition. He self-destructed in Los Angeles, then returned to his old station and his old anchor partner (Patricia Heaton). We had some doubts about this show at first. After seeing next week's episode, however, we're convinced "Back to You" is a winner Two great comedy talents are directed by a master (James Burrows). "Back to You" has big laughs and surprising bits of humanity.

"Kid Nation" debut, 7 p.m., CBS. Maybe there's a good show under all the false claims. CBS said kids rebuilt civilization in a ghost town, with no adults. In truth, this is a movie set (on a ghost-town site), with hundreds of adults around.

OF NOTE

"Deal or No Deal," 7 p.m., NBC. There's a football theme, in a studio filled with old players, young women and sports backdrops. Loud people talk a lot and make bad decisions; it's sort of like being stuck in the bleachers at a bad game.

" 'Til Death" season opener, 7:30 p.m., Fox. Joy (Joely Fisher) has a big, Broadway-style voice, which she even uses when singing "Happy Birthday." Eddie (Brad Garrett) criticizes that, stirring some bad feelings. The result is fairly funny.

"Seeing in the Dark," 8 p.m., PBS. The world is full of amateur stargazers, Timothy Ferris says. In this beautifully filmed hour, we meet some. They range from a musician to Robert Smith, a former Minnesota Viking star who retired at 29 and spends his time looking skyward.

"Last Comic Standing" finale, 8 p.m., NBC. Last week, Gerry Dee, maybe the cleverest of the comics, was ousted. That leaves the giant Lavell Crawford and the Southern-baked Larry Reep. Tonight, we'll have a winner.

"Kitchen Nightmares" debut, 8 p.m., Fox. Gordon Ramsay has more people to shout at as he transforms restaurants.

"American Masters" films, "Orozco: Man of Fire" (9 p.m.) and "Rivera in America" 10 p.m., PBS. First is a beautifully crafted portrait of Jose Clementa Orozco, the one-armed muralist forever in Diego Rivera's shadow. Surprisingly, the Rivera profile that follows isn't up to "Masters" standards. It's overwritten, with little style or grace.
