Ross wins Na Wahine Triathlon

Rachel Ross captured the Na Wahine Sprint Triathlon yesterday by two minutes.

Ross completed the 300-meter swim, 12-mile bike ride and 3.1-mile run in 57 minutes, 19 seconds. Her splits were 7:11 in the swim, 31:29 in the bike and 18:39 in the run.

Katherine Nichols placed second in 59:18 and Candes Gentry was third in 1:03:17.

Division winners in the all-women's triathlon that finished at Kapi'olani Park were: Leah Schretenthaler (14-19) 1:19:37, Abigail Lisac (20-24) 1:03:39, Mariane Uehara (25-29) 1:04:46, Jill Natividad (30-34) 1:06:40, Maggs Morris (35-39) 1:05:50, Uilani Pauole De Sa (40-44) 1:05:58, Melinda Hayman (45-49) 1:10:00, Millie Cooke (50-54) 1:10:44, Lorna Erisman (55-59) 1:16:10, Doran Teramoto (60-64) 1:29:16, Eleanor Kitagawa (70-over) 1:41:28, Laura Springer (military) 1:06:26.

ROTICH, DOHENEY WIN

Jacob Rotich, a Kenyan who now lives in Texas, won his fourth consecutive Maui Marathon yesterday.

Rotich finished in 2 hours, 29 minutes, 22 seconds. Leighton Katsuda of Wailuku placed second in 2:33:55, followed by Kenya's Jonah Maiyo in 2:38:03.

Kailua's Julie Doheney won the women's race in 3:18:39, followed by Japan's Midori Funabashi (3:21:11) and Fumiko Irokawa (3:21:55).

Blake Boldon won the men's half-marathon in 1:14:38 and Dawn Epperson won the women's race in 1:23:27.

WILDER, HARPER FIRST

University of Hawai'i senior Chantelle Wilder defended her title with a dominating performance at Saturday's Chaminade Invitational on the Brigham Young-Hawai'i campus.

Wilder, formerly Chantelle Laan, finished the 5-kilometer race in 18 minutes, 31 seconds to win by 39 seconds. It was her sixth career title and second this season; she won last week's BYUH Invitational on the same course.

BYUH's Amanda Whitford finished second in 19:10, leading the Seasiders to the team title with a low-best 38 points. Hawai'i-Hilo, led by the third-place finish of Kari Andrew (19:28), placed second with 40 points, followed by UH (67), Hawai'i Pacific (93) and Chaminade (116).

BYUH's Golden Harper won the men's 8-kilometer race in 26:57, followed by HPU's Jens Munk Nielson (27:28) and Brandon Laan (28:03).

HPU won the team title with 34 points, followed by Hilo (35) and BYUH (47).
