Man charged in shooting incident

A 60-year-old man charged in connection with a shooting incident Wednesday at a Nanakuli townhouse is scheduled to make his initial appearance today in District Court.

David K. Delima, who lists no permanent local address, is accused of second-degree attempted murder for allegedly shooting at the house of a 27-year-old man on Helelua Street.

No injuries were reported.

Delima is being held in lieu of $50,000 bail and six outstanding warrants totaling $1,575. He was charged Friday.

A 49-year-old man, arrested with Delima, was released pending further investigation.


STAKEOUT RESULTS IN COPPER-THEFT BUST

A 39-year-old man arrested Thursday at a housing demolition project near Honolulu International Airport was charged yesterday with stealing copper.

Faleifa N. Mauga, who lists no permanent local address, was arrested by Kalihi Crime Reduction Unit officers who were staking out the construction project off Catlin Drive because of numerous theft complaints. Mauga was arrested at Meyerkord Place and Catlin Drive at 9:08 p.m.

He was charged with second-degree theft and bail is $15,000 pending his initial appearance today in District Court.


KEKAHA MAN DIES IN CYCLE-CAR CRASH

KEKAHA, Kaua'i — A Kekaha man died Friday night from injuries suffered in a traffic collision on Kaumuali'i Highway.

Kaua'i police identified the man as Stetson Furtado, 20.

According to police, Furtado was driving a motorcycle that struck a station wagon near mile marker 27 in Kekaha at 5:44 p.m. The station wagon was reportedly attempting a U-turn, police said. The 79-year-old male driver was not injured.

Furtado died at Kaua'i Veterans Memorial Hospital.

His death marked Kaua'i's seventh traffic fatality of the year as compared to 11 on the same day in 2006.


MAN CHARGED IN ASSAULT ON OFFICER

A man was charged yesterday with allegedly punching a police officer trying to help him.

Wayne Harold Moten, 24, who listed a social services agency in the Kalihi area as his residence, is being held in lieu of $11,000 bail on suspicion of first-degree assault of a police officer.

Moten was lying in the road at the intersection of Kalia Road and Lewers Street in Waikiki at 1:20 a.m. after police had dispersed a large group.

As an officer tried to help him up, Moten allegedly punched the officer several times. The officer was treated at Straub Clinic & Hospital for bruises and cuts to his head, and released.

Moten was arrested after being treated for injuries at The Queen's Medical Center.
