Linebacker Manti Te'o was a disruption all night to help No. 2 Punahou roll over No. 6 Kamehameha, 28-7, last night in the Interscholastic League of Hono-lulu Division I season opener at Aloha Stadium.

Te'o had two sacks and pressured Kamehameha quarterback Michael Hoke all night and even played some fullback on offense, primarily as a blocker. He also had a nice 9-yard reception to the Kamehameha 1 that set up a 3-yard TD pass from Caymen Shutter to Galen Arakawa to make it 19-7 after the Warriors had pulled to 13-7. Shutter's pass to Kameron Steinhoff for the two-point conversion made it 21-7.

"He's a player," Warriors' first-year coach David Stant said.

"He was all over (the field)," Punahou coach Kale Ane said of his junior linebacker. "We just turned him loose and let him make plays."

The Punahou defense held Kamehameha to 208 yards and didn't allow the TD until the fourth quarter.

The Buffanblu used their two-quarterback system with Shutter throwing TD passes of 9 and 3 yards to Robbie Toma and Arakawa, respectively, while Kimo Makaula had a 9-yard TD pass to Toby Reeuwijk; Makaula also scored on a 7-yard run.

Punahou capitalized on a fumble by Kamehameha on its first series. From the Warriors' 37, Punahou, aided by two encroachment penalties and a personal foul on the Warriors, needed just three plays to score with Makaula dropping back to pass and then running up the middle for a 7-yard score. Robert Izuta's PAT made it 7-0 three minutes into the game.

The Buffanblu added to their lead in the second quarter on a 9-yard TD pass from Shutter to Toma to make it 13-0.

After a scoreless third quarter, the Warriors finally got on the board on a 15-yard TD pass from Hoke to Rylee Urasaki to cap a 13-play, 83-yard drive.

But the Buffanblu took the wind out of the Warriors' sails by scoring on their ensuing series with 6:45 left with Arakawa's TD catch.

Punahou running back Dalton Hilliard helped the Buffanblu milk the clock in the second half, when he rushed for 60 of his game-high 98 yards.
