Heart defibrillators installed in Hawai'i airports have been used three times in the past three months to help passengers who suffered cardiac arrest, state officials said yesterday in honoring the people who revived the passengers.

The latest rescue occurred Sept. 6 in Honolulu when a 76-year-old man arriving from the Mainland suffered a cardiac arrest at the baggage claim area, the Department of Transportation said.

Doctors Jonathon Duca and Nannette Duca-Cruz, and American Airlines employees Brett Martinson, Walter Matsuoka and Dennis Nakachi are credited with reviving the patient.

The other rescues occurred in July in Honolulu and Kapalua, Maui. The state has installed 100 defibrillators at airports, and 1,200 airport employees have been trained in their use.
