Ex-Islander Small Business Person of Year

A former Hawai'i resident has been named Minority Small Business Person of the Year at the 25th anniversary of the National Minority Enterprise Development Week Conference in Washington, D.C.
Lani Hay, president of the Virginia-based Lanmark Technology Inc., was recognized for her work to provide telecommunications and administrative support to the federal government and commercial clients. Lanmark Technology is a U.S. Small Business Administration 8(a) business development program that provides management and technical assistance, and assistance in identifying federal contracting opportunities to socially and economically disadvantaged businesses.
Hay served as a U.S. Navy intelligence officer and an air intelligence officer for a patrol reconnaissance squadron in Hawai'i. She is recognized as a tactical intelligence expert in European, Middle Eastern and Far Eastern military operations.
Hay is founder of One Voice Hawai'i, a nonprofit organization that serves the Native Hawaiian community here. She also is co-founder of the Hay-Smith Foundation, a nonprofit group organized to support the education and empowerment of underserved people in the United States and abroad.
