Recyclable trash will help school, volunteers, shelter

Advertiser Staff

Organizers of the Aloha 'Aina Earth Day No. 31 ("Nanakuli — Wai'anae Recycling Clean-Up Project") are asking concerned area residents to participate in the day-long beautification event on Saturday, Sept. 15, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Wai'anae Boat Harbor at 85-371 Farrington Highway.

They are asking folks to save their recyclable waste for this date and help turn trash into cash to support Nanakuli High School, Nani O Wai'anae (a volunteer organization dedicated to picking up litter on O'ahu), and the Pai'olu Kaiaulu emergency homeless shelter in Wai'anae.

Organizers are asking for junk — scrap metal, pipes, metal appliances, car parts, bicycles, lawn mowers, refrigerators, air conditioners, newspaper, cardboard, shredded documents, cooking oil, beverage containers, green waste, fishing lines, fish nets, car and boat batteries, cell phones, printer cartridges, HI-5¢ recyclables, tires (passenger tires only; limit one load per household), computers (limit one per household/car) and usable clothing and household items.

Do not bring hazardous fluids, microwave ovens, televisions, cars or gas tanks.

No curbside pickup for computers.

For information or curbside pickup, call 781-2734 or 306-1876.
