TONIGHT'S MUST-SEE

"Lincoln Heights" season opener, 8 p.m., ABC Family; reruns at 9 p.m. The first day of school turns violent, in a strong episode. Many of the scenes seem exaggerated. Still, the central characters in this family drama are so well-crafted that viewers will stick with them.

OF NOTE

"The Bill Engvall Show," 6 p.m., TBS. The season finale has Susan drinking too much at a Korean karaoke restaurant.

"The Academy," 7 p.m., and "Jail," 8 and 8:30 p.m., MyNetwork. As this struggling network starts its second season, it turns to reality shows about both halves of the crime struggle. First are the would-be deputies; "Academy" starts with the first day of an 18-week training course by the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department. Then there are scenes from jails. Both half-hours include Las Vegas; the first also has Fort Worth and Tampa; the second has Cincinnati and Tacoma.

"Bones," 7 p.m., Fox. In a rerun, the remains of a body are found in concrete; the Mob is suspected. Also, Brennan's dad (Ryan O'Neal) visits.

"Damages," 7 p.m., FX. Frobisher is ready to try a bold strategy.

"House," 8 p.m., Fox. Dr. House feels a patient might survive if she has an abortion. She refuses.

"Biggest Loser: Did They Keep the Weight Off?" 8 p.m., NBC. The new "Loser" season starts next week, with soap star Alison Sweeney taking over as host. First, she heads this look at 13 previous contestants.

"Wide Angle: Brazil in Black and White," 9 p.m., PBS. Many Brazilians congratulate their country for having a fluid, multiracial society, this special says. By one account, however, people with African roots make up half the population and 5 percent of corporate management. Now a university has a quota system, creating the job of determining who is and isn't black. This well-made documentary views a complex subject.

"Law & Order: Special Victims Unit," 9 p.m., NBC. In a fairly good rerun, a woman has been killed and her handsome fiance (Dylan Walsh) seems distraught.
