Miller helps Chaminade volleyball win two

Freshman Samantha Miller had 26 kills and 17 digs as Chaminade defeated Northwest Nazarene, 30-27, 24-30, 30-17, 30-32, 15-13, last night in the Hawai'i Invitational at McCabe gym.
Trina Kauliakamoa added 14 kills and 15 digs, and Krista Catian had 21 digs for the Silverswords (7-1).
Lindsay Forseth had 21 kills and 30 digs for Northwest Nazarene (6-2).
Earlier in the day, Miller had 23 kills and 16 digs as Chaminade defeated Central Washington (1-7), 32-30, 14-30, 30-20, 30-28. Rachael Schurman had 22 kills for Central Washington.

Earlier in the day, freshman libero Keisha Moeai had 39 digs to shatter the school record as BYUH outlasted Cal State-Stanislaus (3-4), 30-19, 30-27, 20-30, 33-35, 15-11. Filimoeatu had 22 kills and 21 digs, Faylynn Merrick added 19 kills and LeeAnn Mapu put up 59 assists for the Seasiders. Debbie Vander Schaaf had 18 kills and Megan Britton added 35 digs for Stanislaus.
Earlier in the day, Kristy Sather had 16 kills and 10 digs as Sonoma State (3-5) defeated HPU, 16-30, 30-23, 30-15, 30-28. Balanay again led HPU with 15 kills.
Elsewhere, Hawai'i-Hilo (3-4) dropped a pair of matches at the Nanook Classic in Fairbanks, Alaska. In the opener, Olivia Solomon had 13 kills and 15 digs as Humboldt State (4-3) prevailed, 28-30, 30-27, 30-27, 30-19. Fabiane Seben had 12 kills and Laura Rodriguez 28 digs for Hilo.
Later, Isabela Gualberto and Kimberly Clark each had 11 kills as West Florida (7-0) triumphed, 32-30, 30-23, 30-21. Josimara Pinheiro had 18 kills and 12 digs for Hilo.
KANSAS STATE SWEEPS
Kansas State hit .480 for the match in sweeping Louisville, 30-27, 30-23, 30-16, yesterday in the Hawaiian Airlines Wahine Classic at the Stan Sheriff Center.
Rita Liliom had 16 kills and Nataly Korobkova 15 for Kansas State (4-1). Jana Matiasovska led Louisville (3-2) with 10 kills.
BEACH VOLLEYBALL
LAMBERT, METZGER FALL
Phil Dalhausser and Todd Rogers beat Punahou alums Mike Lambert and Stein Metzger, 21-12, 24-22, yesterday to win the AVP Cincinnati Open and capture the Crocs Cup with their 10th tournament title of the season.
Dalhausser had seven blocks and hit for an .818 average, helping his team pocket the $20,000 first-place check.
"Phil is just a scoring machine," Metzger said. "He blocked me a lot in the first game. I put myself in a different position in the second game, and he couldn't stop me until the very end he blocked me twice. He was the difference."
Metzger and Lambert changed their tactics in the second game and played more aggressively. They led by three early, but after Rogers hit a cut shot to pull within 10-9, it became a sideout game.
Rogers and Metzger were then served repeatedly as the match extended into overtime. Metzger forged two game points, but they couldn't convert as Dalhausser scored and Rogers followed with a shot off Lambert's block to set up Dalhausser's two blocks that ended the match.

BYUH WOMEN TAKE TWO
Brigham Young-Hawai'i, with Amanda Whitford winning the 4-kilometer race, scored a pair of victories yesterday in a meet that was scored as two dual meets in the Nanook Invitational at Fairbanks, Alaska.
Whitford finished in 14 minutes, 12 seconds.
BYUH beat Hawai'i Pacific, 24-31, and Alaska-Fairbanks, 24-31.
In the men's race, BYUH's Kenneth Harper won in 11:31.
BYUH beat Alaska-Fairbanks, 28-29, while HPU beat BYUH, 24-31.

HPU LOSES TWO
Chico State defeated Hawai'i Pacific, 2-1, yesterday in a men's match at HPU's Windward Field.
Earlier, Concordia beat HPU, 3-0, in a women's match.
GOLF
KUA IN A TIE FOR 22ND
Kamehameha Schools senior TJ Kua and Honolulu pro Dave Eichelberger teamed to shoot 68 yesterday in the second round of the Wal-Mart First Tee Open at Pebble Beach in California.
Kua and Eichelberger are tied for 22nd at 135 in the gross best-ball format that pairs a junior golfer with a Championships Tour pro.
