Nordstrom hopes to raise $300,000 for three Hawai'i nonprofit organizations at a $150-a-guest charity event featuring a runway fashion show and a chance to shop in the retailer's new Ala Moana Center department store two days before it opens to the public on March 7.

The March 5 charity gala will direct proceeds equally to Bishop Museum, Hawaii Theatre Center and HUGS (Help, Understanding & Group Support).

Besides the fashion show and sneak preview of the store, the event will include live entertainment, heavy pupu, cocktails and a buffet.

The event starts at 7 p.m. Tickets will go on sale Nov. 27, and are available through Hawaii Theatre Center at 808-723-1879.

Organizers said space is limited, so there's a limit of 10 tickets per person.

Honorary chairpersons will be Al and Sue Landon. Serving as event co-chairs will be Allison Holt Gendreau, Beth Bowlen Harbottle and Jean Rolles.

Brian Tatsumura, Nordstrom Ala Moana store manager, in a statement, said the company is excited about assisting local charities and opening the 210,000-square-foot store, which will be Nordstrom's first full-line department store in Hawai'i.

"At Nordstrom, supporting our community is a key part of doing business, and we are especially honored to be partnering with these three organizations," he said. "The arts and children are an important part of Hawai'i's legacy and future."
