Honu, Sharks prevail in winter baseball

Kevin Roberts struck out Ryan Rogowski with the tying run at third in the bottom of the ninth inning, lifting the North Shore Honu to a 7-6 victory over the West Oahu CaneFires last night in a Hawaii Winter Baseball game at Hans L'Orange Park.
Brad Corley hit a two-run homer for the Honu (15-6), who won their fifth in a row but not before some anxious moments.
Trailing 7-1 entering the ninth, the CaneFires (6-14) closed to 7-4 on Ian Gac's RBI double and K.C. Herren's two-run double. West Oahu loaded the bases with two outs, and Omar Aguilar unleashed a pair of wild pitches to make it 7-6 before Roberts was summoned from the bullpen to end the rally.
Earlier, Brad Suttle's three-run homer in the second inning sparked an early surge that propelled Honolulu to an 8-3 victory over Waikiki.
Takumi Kobe batted 3 for 4, Tyler Flowers had two hits and scored twice, and Austin Jackson hit a solo homer for the Sharks (11-9), who scored eight runs in the first three innings.
Hector Pellot had three hits, Jermaine Mitchell went 2 for 3 with a two-run double, and Michael Wilson added two hits for the BeachBoys (9-12).
VOLLEYBALL
HILO CLINCHES SHARE OF PACWEST CROWN
Fabiane Seben and Lauren Bayer each had 12 kills as Hawai'i-Hilo defeated Dixie State, 30-27, 30-22, 30-16, last night at Hilo civic to clinch a share of the Pacific West Conference championship.
Laura Rodriguez had 24 digs and setter Desiree Agader added 43 assists to fuel an offense that hit .313 for the match as Hilo (19-5 overall, 10-0 PacWest) won its 10th match in a row.
Cami Johnson led Dixie (5-21, 3-8) with eight kills.
Elsewhere, Trina Kauliakamoa had 14 kills and Evelyn Bluthenthal 10 as Chaminade beat Grand Canyon, 30-22, 30-18, 30-23, in a PacWest match at McCabe Gym.
Samantha Miller added nine kills and nine digs for Chaminade (11-6, 4-5).
Megan Toth had nine kills and Katie Meyers 17 digs for Grand Canyon (7-15, 3-7).
GOLF
FELDMANN, STUBBLEFIELD WIN SIXTH TITLE IN ROW
Andrew Feldmann and Larry Stubblefield defeated Ron Castillo Sr. and Ron Castillo Jr., 4 and 3, yesterday to capture their sixth consecutive Golf Concepts/E-Z-Go Aloha Section PGA 4-Ball Match Play Championship at Oahu Country Club.
Feldmann and Stubblefield surged to a 3-up lead after seven holes, but Castillo Jr. birdied No. 8 and Castillo Sr. parred No. 9 to close their deficit to 1-up.
Stubblefield then birdied No. 19, and Feldmann birdied No. 12 and parred No. 13 to push their lead to 4-up. The teams halved the next two holes to end the match, giving Stubblefield and Feldmann the first-place check of $3,200.
MARTIAL ARTS
KAILUA'S KWAN ON CALIFORNIA CARD
Kaleo Kwan of Kailua is scheduled to fight in a nationally televised mixed martial arts event tomorrow at Santa Ynez, Calif.
Kwan will face a fighter from Thailand who goes by the single name Malaipet. The lightweight (155 pounds) bout is scheduled for three five-minute rounds.
It will be televised on the Showtime cable network. It is part of the ShoXC series, and the top performers from the series are often invited to compete in larger events for the EliteXC organization.
Kwan is 8-6 in professional MMA bouts. Prior to his MMA career, he was 12-0 in professional kickboxing. Malaipet is 2-1.
The broadcast is scheduled to be shown on a delayed basis in Hawai'i at 8 p.m.
