Pitching fuels Sharks' attack on Honu, 2-0

For the second consecutive night, the Honolulu Sharks came up with a pitching gem.
Starter George Kontos (2-2) struck out 11 and a scattered three hits over five innings in a 2-0 win against the North Shore Honu last night in Hawaii Winter Baseball at Hans L'Orange Park.
The Sharks (9-6-1) also won Tuesday's game, 2-0, behind the 10-strikeout performance of Shingo Matsuzaki.
Katsuyuki Aihara added two scoreless innings, while Daniel Bard and Tyler Wilson each tagged on a scoreless inning. Wilson got his first save.
Shinya Nakayama (2-1) gave up two runs, four hits and three walks with five strikeouts in five innings for the Honu (10-6).
The Sharks scored in the second when Jason Place doubled and two outs later scored on Fuminori Yokogawa's triple.
They added a run in the third on a bases-loaded sacrifice fly to right by Tyler Flowers.
In the first game, Michael McKenry's one out solo home run in the bottom of the ninth lifted the Waikiki BeachBoys to a 7-6 win against the West Oahu CaneFires.
McKenry's blast came off CaneFires' relief pitcher Neil Wagner (0-1) and helped the BeachBoys (8-8) snap a five-game losing streak. It was his third homer of the season.
David Newton (2-0) pitched 1 1/3 scoreless innings for Waikiki
Emmanuel Garcia went 4 for 4 with a double and triple and two runs scored. Michael Wilson, McKenry, Josh Womack and Hawai'i's own Matt Inouye each had two hits for the BeachBoys, while Chad Tracy went 3 for 5, hitting his third homer of the season, for the CaneFires (4-11-1).
Today is a day off. Starting tomorrow, the Waikiki BeachBoys and North Shore Honu open a three-game series in Hilo at Wong Stadium. The West Oahu CaneFires and Honolulu Sharks open a three-game series at Hans L'Orange Park.
