Flying over the 1,400-foot Moua Tapu on the remote Polynesian island of Huahine, Yosihiko Sinoto saw the vague shadow of a straight line on a hill near the sacred mountain. His remarkable archaeological discovery yielded parts of an ocean
going canoe big enough to have sailed to Hawai'i — and back.
Sinoto will discuss his find, and other uncovered secrets in a lecture, "Huahine: Island of the Lost Canoe," 6 p.m. today in the Atherton Halau, Bishop Museum; $5. Reservations required today, as space is limited: 848-4187.

FINAL WORD
"When I first saw (mixed martial arts) years ago, I squirmed. But I do watch it. Conceptually, it's the same thing (as boxing). It's a matter of building personalities."
