Red Hill tanks will be cleaned and repaired

The Shaw Group Inc., a Baton Rouge, La.-based company, said it had been awarded a U.S. Naval Facilities Engineering Service Center contract to clean, inspect and repair tanks at Red Hill.

The company did not disclose terms of the two-year contract for work on Red Hill Tank 2 and Red Hill Tank 20. The tanks are among 20 massive tanks buried in Red Hill that served as a fuel-storage facility. They were built in the early 1940s for wartime needs and are each the size of the 20-story Ala Moana Building.


NOMINEES SOUGHT FOR BUSINESS HALL OF FAME

Junior Achievement of Hawai'i is seeking nominations of business leaders to be considered for induction into the Hawai'i Business Hall of Fame.

The Hall of Fame was established in 1990 and honors individuals for business innovations, management and civic involvement that made a difference in companies and communities in Hawai'i. Those honored also are recognized for the high standards they have set for the state's young people.

The 2008 recipients will be inducted at a ceremony March 5 at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel. Last year's inductees were Dwayne Steele of Grace Pacific, Paul Loo of Morgan Stanley, Joe Nicolai of JN Automotive and Harold Tanouye of Green Point Nurseries.

$20 FLU SHOTS OFFERED AT TWO SAM'S CLUBS

Sam's Club will offer $20 flu shots at its Honolulu and Pearl City locations today through Saturday between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. The retailer said the offer is open to both members and nonmembers. People who receive the shot will also receive a booklet on flu prevention.


YOUNG LAUNDRY OWNER EXPANDING

U.S. Dry Cleaning Corp., the Palm Springs, Calif.-owner of Honolulu's Young Laundry and operations elsewhere, said it signed an agreement to buy four dry-cleaning chains for $22.9 million in cash and stock plus the assumption of $3.66 million of debt.

The company did not disclose the locations of the chains but said it expects to complete the transactions by the end of the year. It said it plans acquisitions with the proceeds of a $20 million senior secured convertible debt offering.


$1.4M RAISED IN 2007 GIVE ALOHA CAMPAIGN

Foodland Super Market said more than $1.4 million has been raised for nonprofit organizations in this year's Give Aloha campaign.

Customers donated $1.14 million at Foodland and Sack N Save checkouts from Sept. 1-30. Foodland and the Western Union Foundation contributed an additional $285,000.


SOFTWARE MAKER CONTRACT EXTENDED

Decision Research, a Honolulu-based maker of software for insurance firms, said the Arrowhead General Insurance Agency has extended use of a software product that supports the processing of workers' compensation programs.

San Diego-based Arrowhead also uses the software maker's DecisionMaker Rating product for six commercial lines of business within its online portal and policy management systems, Decision Research said.

"By leveraging our rating technology ease of use and rate publishing features, we are able to help our customers launch new lines of business quickly and affordably," said Karen Yamamoto, DRC's vice president of product development, in a news release.
