WASHINGTON — Freshman Rep. Mazie Hirono raised $75,000 for a re-election bid during the three months ending Sept. 30, reflecting a slower pace in raising contributions but one that she said is "on track."

The Hawai'i Democrat reported having a campaign treasury of $337,000, according to new public disclosure reports filed with the Federal Election Commission.

Hawai'i's other congressman, fellow Democrat Neil Abercrombie, brought in about $77,000 in the same period while listing about $153,000 in expenses. That dropped Abercrombie's cash to about $1.02 million from the $1.09 million reported on June 30.

No one has filed to run against Hirono or Abercrombie.

Hirono, who raised about $477,000 in the first six months of this year, pulled in $42,100 from individual contributions from July through September.

She said she raised less money because she was home in Hawai'i during August and didn't have any fundraising events.

"We're still on track," she said. "I'm not saying that any of this is easy for any of us, but I'm doing my best."

In the third quarter, Hirono also received $33,000 from special-interest groups, including $5,000 from the National Asian American Political Empowerment Fund, $2,500 from the sheet-metal workers' union and $2,500 from the union representing heavy equipment operators, mechanics and building maintenance workers.

Hirono's expenses included $22,372 to Kalik and Associates in Bethesda, Md., for fundraising and consulting, $1,950 for computer software and $2,251 for rent on her Honolulu office.

Abercrombie raised about $556,000 through June 30 but also slowed his pace in the third quarter.

In the third quarter, the congressman received almost $34,000 in individual contributions and $42,500 from special interest groups, including $4,000 from the marine engineers' union, $5,000 from the sheet-metal workers' union and $2,500 from the electrical workers' union.

His expenses in the past three months were $153,000, including $67,200 to the Hilton Hawaiian Village for a fundraising event, $3,508 to Custom Audio Inc. for a sound system at a fundraiser and $4,698 to 2 Dynamic Inc. for favors at a fundraiser.

Other costs included $10,100 to William M. Kaneko for consulting and fundraising and $13,800 to Fiorello Consulting of Falls Church, Va., for consulting and fundraising.
