UH health program re-accredited

The University of Hawai'i-Manoa Office of Public Health Studies has received a seven-year accreditation from the Council on Education for Public Health.
"This re-accreditation decision affirms the strength of our growing public health program and the outstanding achievements of our faculty, staff, students and alumni," said Dr. Jay Maddock, director of the Office of Public Health Studies.
The office, part of the John A. Burns School of Medicine at the University of Hawai'i, offers master's degrees in epidemiology and social and behavioral health sciences.
The seven-year accreditation is the longest conferred by the Council of Education for Public Health, which recognizes 108 schools and programs nationwide.
YOUNG BROS. GETS FUEL SURCHARGE OK
The Public Utilities Commission is allowing a major interisland shipper to add a fuel surcharge to its rates for the first time.
In addition, the commission has granted Young Bros. Ltd. a 7.5 percent increase. The fuel surcharge will be adjusted every three months according to the price of gasoline.
The increase is expected to give the shipper $4.4 million in added annual revenue. The company had filed for a 10.7 percent increase last December. New rates will go into effect when the shipper files revised tariff sheets.
PANEL TO FOCUS ON TECH TAX CREDITS
State Tax Director Kurt Kawafuchi and other panelists will discuss state technology tax credits at the Hawaii Venture Capital Association luncheon on Oct. 25 at the Plaza Club in Downtown Honolulu.
Panelists at the luncheon, which runs from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., also will include Ray Kamikawa, former director of the Department of Taxation; Jeffrey Au, managing director for the PacifiCap venture capital fund; and Al Fernandes, a partner at KMH LLP CPA and former chairman of the State Tax Review Commission.

HAWAIIAN AIR CONFERENCE CALL SET
Hawaiian Holdings Inc., the parent company of Hawaiian Airlines, said it will hold a conference call for investors and financial analysts on Oct. 30 at noon Hawai'i time to discuss its third-quarter results.
Hawaiian President and Chief Executive Officer Mark Dunkerley and Chief Financial Officer Peter Ingram will host the conference call, which others can listen to through the the investor relations section of the company's www.hawaiianairlines.com Web site.
BIOPONIC TO SELL PRODUCTS IN WEST
Bioponic Phytoceuticals Inc., a Maui-based maker of natural health and well-being products, said it's engaged California-based Active Sales and Marketing to distribute its products in nine Western states.
Under the agreement, Active Sales will initially distribute six Bioponic products.
"With this agreement, we mark a significant new milestone in carving out an all-important U.S. retail presence beyond the local Hawaiian market," said Steven Schorr, Bioponic chairman and chief executive officer, in a press statement.
