Horizon raising fuel surcharge to 25%

Advertiser Staff

Horizon Lines said it will increase the fuel surcharge by 1 percentage point to 25 percent on its Hawai'i and Guam routes effective Nov. 11.

The fuel surcharge has been filed with the Surface Transportation Board and covers Horizon Lines' tariffs that govern shipments moving between the continental U.S. and Hawai'i and Guam.

Horizon said the increase is necessary to offset a portion of increased bunker fuel costs experienced in recent weeks.

"Horizon Lines monitors fuel costs closely and only adjusts the fuel surcharge when cost trends necessitate an adjustment," the company said in a letter to customers.

"We understand the impact that the fuel surcharge has on your transportation budget. Horizon Lines will continue to seek ways to minimize fuel expense as we enter the winter months."
