More people are riding Las Vegas monorail

LAS VEGAS — The Las Vegas Monorail Company says it has seen ridership increase in the past three months.
The monorail system reported 2.2 million riders in the third quarter of 2007, a 27 percent increase over the same period last year.
The number is a 10 percent increase over the second quarter. The nearly four-mile monorail system began running in July 2004 and stops at several casinos in the resort corridor.
When it began service, the monorail projected more than 50,000 riders a day. The average daily ridership in the third quarter was about half that projection. The monorail reported $7.7 million in fare box revenues for the period.
