There were no flip-flops from Kobe Bryant yesterday, and no hard feelings from the teammates he criticized during the offseason.

At the Los Angeles Lakers' media day in El Segundo, Calif., the first time all the players and coaches had gathered since Bryant made offseason headlines about wanting to be traded because the Lakers didn't have enough good players and lacked the willingness in the front office to make improvements to the team, it was all happy talk.

"I want to bring a title back to Los Angeles," Bryant said. "That's priority No. 1."

Bryant declined to show any frustration yesterday about the team's inability to pull off a major deal in the offseason. And he said his trade demands are a thing of the past.

"When the season starts, it's not my place to say, 'Here's what we need to do here, here's what we need to do there,' " he said. "That's not my job. My job is to come out on the floor and help us win ballgames."

The Lakers left later yesterday for Honolulu, where they'll begin training camp today and play their first two exhibition games before returning home Oct. 12.

Bryant said he regretted the way things occurred in the offseason after the Lakers lost 27 of their last 43 games and finished 42-40, then lost in the first round of the playoffs to the Phoenix Suns.

"I was frustrated, so I blew up," he said.

Lakers coach Phil Jackson said he doesn't think Bryant has caused irreparable damage to the team's chemistry. "That (Bryant's criticism) was said back in June," Jackson said. "Now here we are in October."

Jackson, entering the final season of a three-year contract, said he asked some players if they thought Bryant's comments needed to be addressed as a team. They said no.

"They seem perfectly at ease with him," Jackson said.

Center Andrew Bynum, the main player singled out in criticism by Bryant, shrugged off any hurt feelings.

"I didn't think it was that big of a deal," Bynum said.

WARRIORS

TEAM SIGNS THREE

Golden State signed guard Tierre Brown and forwards Pat Burke and Carlos Powell yesterday before the club departed for training camp in Honolulu.

Brown hasn't played in the NBA since appearing in 76 games with the Los Angeles Lakers during the 2004-05 season. The point guard also has played with Houston, Cleveland and New Orleans.

Powell, a member of the Warriors' summer league team, has played professionally in New Zealand and Portugal since finishing his college career at South Carolina.

Burke, a 33-year-old forward, spent time on the bench with Orlando and Phoenix over the past three seasons. He appeared in 23 games with the Suns last year.

Golden State has 17 players under contract heading into its two-week training camp. Mickael Pietrus, a restricted free agent, also is with the club.

ELSEWHERE

Suns: Forward Amare Stoudemire will undergo minor arthroscopic knee surgery today but is expected to be sidelined only two to three weeks. The operation to remove a loose particle will be on the All-Star's right knee, not the left on which microfracture surgery was done two years ago. That operation forced him to miss virtually all of the 2005-06 season.

Pacers: Forward Shawne Williams was ordered to perform 40 hours of community service yesterday for driving without a license after a judge suspended a possible 60-day jail sentence. Williams pleaded guilty to the misdemeanor charge in Marion (Ind.) Superior Court. He was also fined $400 and ordered to pay $160 in court costs. The 6-foot-9 Williams was arrested Sept. 11 after a traffic stop in which marijuana was found in his car.

Also yesterday, guard Darrell Armstrong was waived by the Pacers. The 39-year-old Armstrong, the third-oldest player in the NBA last season, came to the Pacers last year in an offseason trade with Dallas. He played in all but one game and averaged 5.6 points and 2.4 assists. The 14-year veteran started four games.

Rockets: Houston signed Dikembe Mutombo to a one-year contract yesterday, extending the 41-year-old center's NBA career into a 16th season. The 7-foot-2, 260-pound Mutombo ended up playing a pivotal role for Houston last season, when Yao Ming broke a bone in his right leg and missed 33 games. Mutombo started in his place and averaged five points, 10 rebounds and 1.45 blocks.

Cavaliers: Guard Eric Snow will have surgery on his left knee and will likely miss the entire preseason after getting hurt last week while working out at the Cavaliers' training facility. The 12-year veteran tore cartilage in his knee and will have an operation today at the Cleveland Clinic.
