HAWAI'I KAI
Work to start on dog park

Work should begin shortly on the Hawai'i Kai dog park now that the city's Department of Planning and Permitting has issued the permit necessary to start clearing the land for the park on the corner of Keahole Street and Kalaniana'ole Highway, next to the Kiss and Ride facility.
The 1-acre park is the result of a public/private partnership. City crews will do the actual work, planting the grass and installing the irrigation system, said Elaine Dobashi, president of the nonprofit Hui 'Ilio Hawai'i.
Once that is completed, Hui 'Ilio will hire a contractor to install the fence. Updates will be posted regularly on the group's Web site, www.hui-ilio.org.
