The appeal? A laid-back reggae and dancehall night for aficionados who seriously need to dance the music.

Open since: April 2006, and founded by turntablist Jason "45Revolver" Palmer. The idea? An unpretentious club night showing off the more danceable side of reggae, which he figured had an underserved following in town. "Many nights focus on 'numbers' and drink specials," said Palmer. "We knew all we had to do was focus on the music ... keep it consistent ... and people responded."

Late p.m. crowd: 'Round 11:30 p.m., the crowd is small — couples, singles, groups of friends — but patrons typically make a beeline for the dance floor upon arrival.

Early a.m. crowd: Peaks way post-midnight. More regulars. An active, but roomy dance floor. Still mellow and friendly.

The soundtrack: Very danceable dancehall and reggae — I won't pretend to know all the stuff I heard, but I definitely heard some Capleton and Yellowman — from the very deep crates of DJs 45Revolver, Liloa and Mr. Bone. Seriously dug the pop and click of the vintage vinyl. Seriously.

Famous Redda Fire past guests: Include King Yellowman, Mega Banton, Mr. Easy, Ruff Scott, DJ Rob Paine and Federation Sound System. Honolulu reggae/dancehall turntablists and players of instruments frequently drop by to work the night or chill.
