To win Pigskin Picks, Wai'anae's David Hayashi said, "takes a miracle."

"To win that stuff is more hard than to win at Keno," said the 66-year-old retiree, who correctly picked the winners of 13 of 15 games to win the contest. He earns a trip for two to Las Vegas and $500. "Even if you get all right or one wrong, you still might not win."

Hayashi's ballot was selected randomly from very few who had just two wrong.

Hayashi, who holds the distinction of being a member of Wai'anae High's first graduating class in 1959, studies hard. He has a worksheet, with conference standings, BCS standings, articles on pro picks and knows the favorites.

But that's not his secret.

"I tell you the strategy. The strategy is luck," he said. "I tell you, it's not easy ... I try use my brains and it gets worse. (I'd) check ballots Sunday and I get so much wrong it's not funny."

Last week featured numerous upsets, such as No. 1 LSU losing at home and Texas A&M beating Texas, the Bengals thumping the Titans, the Raiders winning at Kansas City and Minnesota trouncing the New York Giants.

"This time I think had nine upsets, I picked seven of them."

Hayashi said if he's lucky, he'll get to Vegas once a year.

"(I) can't afford to go Vegas, so I gotta keep playing these kind of games," he said.
