Identity theft, fraud alleged

A 22-year-old Kailua woman was being held by police last night on 19 counts of identity theft, fraud and other charges following an investigation that began this month.
Police said the woman was arrested yesterday afternoon and remained in custody last night.
Kane'ohe district police said the case began Nov. 1 when a car was broken into in Kailua and the victim's credit cards were used illegally.
The investigation led police to the woman who was arrested yesterday. Among the charges being considered last night were theft, fraudulent use of a credit card, unauthorized use of personal information, forgery, identity theft and promoting dangerous drugs.
MAN ACCUSED OF ABUSING GIRLFRIEND
A 22-year-old man was in police custody last night after allegedly trying to smother his girlfriend with a pillow.
Police said the man attacked the 24-year-old victim in a Seaside Avenue apartment at about 4 p.m. Friday.
He initially grabbed her from behind and applied a submission hold to her throat, police said. When she struggled free, police said he grabbed her again and held a pillow over her face.
The woman managed to free herself again and call police. The suspect fled the apartment but was arrested later without incident.
He was being held on a possible charge of abusing a household member.
30 ALCOHOL-RELATED ARRESTS OVERNIGHT
Honolulu police made more than 30 arrests for alcohol-related driving offenses between 6:45 p.m. Friday and 5:30 a.m. yesterday.
About a dozen of the arrests came at a police roadblock on Monsarrat Avenue, not far from a popular Waikiki nightclub.
Other arrests for driving under the influence of alcohol and having an open container of alcohol in a vehicle came in Kailua, 'Ewa Beach, Hawai'i Kai, urban Honolulu and along the H-1 Freeway.
