Rites Sunday for rider of moped

Services have been set for the 14-year-old boy who died Oct. 28 when he lost control of his moped during a Halloween cruise from his home in Papakolea to the North Shore.
Gjino Kanahele, a freshman at Ho'okupono School and a member of the Hawai'i Young Warriors, was among 60 moped riders on an excursion when his moped crashed into a guard rail on Kaukonahua Road, a winding two-lane road. Also injured during the ride was Gjino Kanahele's brother, Taurus, 15, who was treated and released. Kanahele was not licensed nor was he wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
Kanahele is survived by his father, Ezekiel; mother, Karen Wallace, brothers, Ezekiel Jr. and Taurus; sister, Zuante; grandmother, Helen Yuen; grandfather, Herman Mercado; great-grandmother, Helen Peralta.
The service will be held Sunday.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Nu'uanu Memorial Park & Mortuary.
Service will begin at 1 p.m., with cremation to follow. Private inurnment is planned for a later date. Casual attire is suggested.
