PROGRESSO LIGHT SOUTHWESTERN-STYLE VEGETABLE SOUP

What we liked best: Taste, quick prep time, low calories.

What we liked least: High in sodium — 840 milligrams — 35 percent of your daily allowance.

What it replaces: High-calorie soups with as many as 200 calories per cup.

Health bonus: Knowing how far you went, your pace and the approximate number of calories you burned.

What we liked best: You can label and save your routes to your own profile and choose to share them with the public or e-mail them to friends.

What we liked least: Not knowing about this before.

What it replaces: Overestimating or underestimating your workout.

DOCTOR KRACKER KLASSIC 3-SEED FLATBREAD AND SNACKERS

Health bonus: All that good stuff mentioned above offers super health benefits.

What we liked best: The taste is off the charts. The "au naturel-ness" of these crackers is great, and the ingredients list is practically saintly.

What we liked least: High in calories, but at least they're "healthy" calories.

What it replaces: They can replace bread (say, with soup) or chips and other crackers.

Cost: About $19 for six bags of flatbread on Amazon.com. (That's just over $3 for a pack of eight large flatbread crackers.)

Also: Graham, Pumpkin Seed Cheese, Seeded Spelt, Seedlander, Sunflower Cheese; drkracker.com, which lists locations and has an online shop.

UNCLE BEN'S WHOLE GRAIN BROWN READY RICE

Why: Time is always of the essence, and so are whole grains. Here's a quick (90 seconds) whole-grain Calorie Bargain.

Health bonus: Whole grains have dietary fiber, vitamins, minerals and phytochemicals.

What we liked best: A shortcut to whole grains.

What we liked least: Some members of our tasting panel aren't crazy about eating microwaved foods. (But you can also prepare this product on the stove top, although it takes longer than 90 seconds.) Also, this was the only Uncle Ben's Ready Rice we thought was great — the others have too many "unknown" ingredients.

What it replaces: White rice, couscous or normal brown rice that takes more than 30 minutes to prepare.

Cost: About $1.99 per box.

Also: There are 12 varieties of Ready Rice, but the Whole Grain Brown is our favorite; check your supermarket.

Nutritional information: Serving size: 1 cup, 220 calories, 4 g fat, 41 g carbs, 2 g dietary fiber, 5 g protein, 5 mg sodium.
