MARITAL NULLITY BRIEFING PLANNED

The Rev. Mark Gantley, judicial vicar for the Diocese of Honolulu, will present information on the Roman Catholic tribunal process of petitioning for a declaration of marital nullity (commonly called an annulment) at 7 p.m. Nov. 13 at Immaculate Conception Church in Lihu'e, Kaua'i.

Gantley will give an Advocate Workshop for priests, deacons and advocates earlier that day, as well.

LIGHTS, LATKES AT 'CHANUKAPALOOZA'

"Chanukapalooza," a free event celebrating the annual Jewish Festival of the Lights, will start at 5:30 p.m. Dec. 2 at the University of Hawai'i Campus Center.

There will be latkes, music, dancing, dreidel games, keiki gifts, story telling and an electric menorah lighting with Gov. Linda Lingle.

Also, Temple Emanu-El is having its annual Hanukkah party at 6 p.m. Dec. 7. A 7:30 p.m. holiday service will feature music by Cantor Ken Aronowitz and Rachel Haymer.

BUDDHIST SCHOOL HEAD TO SPEAK

Pieper Toyama will discuss "Peace Education through Engaged Buddhism" at the Interfaith Open Table, 7 a.m. Nov. 14 at Temple Emanu-El, 2550 Pali Highway.

Toyama, headmaster of the nation's first Buddhist high school, will discuss the Pacific Buddhist Academy's focus on peace education. Also on the agenda is author Reynold Feldman discussing "Finding Wisdom in All Religions and Everything Else."

LDS TO BLESS SITE IN KAPOLEI

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will have a groundbreaking and blessing for its new Ward Chapel, 2074 Lauwiliwili St. in Kapolei, at 7 a.m. today.

Designed for two wards, or congregations, the 3.174-acre site will hold a $4.5 million, 12,846-square-foot multiuse church building, designed to serve 600.

Construction is estimated to take about a year.

Reconstruction of the Wai'anae Chapel facility, damaged in an arson fire last year, is expected to start in mid-2008.
