Advertiser Staff

RENO, Nev. — Hawai'i was shut out from first-team All-Western Athletic Conference baseball honors last night at the tournament dinner at the Peppermill.

The Rainbows (33-23 overall, 11-13 WAC), who finished tied for fourth with San Jose State (32-24, 11-13), but seeded fifth because of a head-to-head tie-breaker, did land five players on the second team. They were first baseman Kris Sanchez, second baseman Jon Hee, third baseman Justin Frash, designated hitter Vinnie Catricala and outfielder Brandon Haislet.

The selections were made by the league's coaches, who based their picks on WAC games only.

Hee, a junior who starred at Mid-Pacific Institute, batted .354 with 10 doubles.

Frash, a senior, batted .348 with 15 RBIs.

Catricala, a freshman, batted .321.

Their statistics are from WAC games only.
