Alana Power diary

Friday, May 18: You would think that I would run out of things to talk about regarding the hotel we're staying at, but at 10 o'clock this morning my roommate walked into the bathroom and realized that our carpet was completely soaked in water.

Come to find out the room next to us left their shower on for some unknown reason and had flooded our entire room and fire exit stairwell in the process!

Despite the flood we got ready, giggling in disbelief, and headed to the field.

This game was probably one of the most memorable games of the year. We showed up, did our regular warm-up in front of the ESPN cameras and got ready for the game.

However, there was something slightly different in the air that just gave us a bit more pep in our step. Maybe it was the crowd, UCLA's field, the security, or the constant reminder that we were in the postseason, but something made us look and feel better.

Coach Bob's wife had brought a bunch of ti leaves from home that we hung over our dugout and even gave to fans as they walked in. Even one of the Olympic softball players attending grabbed one and shook it for "good luck" she said.

I guess Hawai'i has won over more hearts than just their "homegrown" fans.

The girls were ready. No one seemed really nervous to jump on the field or face their pitcher-everyone seemed pretty together. It did get really noisy in the beginning of the game, their fans were excited and their team cheered a whole lot, but "Juzzy" (Justine) kept her composure and pitched the best game in my eyes this entire season.

Our girls didn't hit badly, they just hit them to people on the field and while we did the cheers that our football boys did for us this year in hopes that it would spark someone to hit a home run, it didn't happen until the 10th inning when Tanisha Milca slammed one over right-field fence.

Game over, we win. We screamed, then packed up for tomorrow.

As sweet of a win that was, we couldn't celebrate too much, seeing as how it was day one of a three-day adventure.

It was a tiring game, but one well worth it. It showed us that any team will give us a run for our money, but the one who makes the hits count is the one who will end up with the "W" everyone is looking for.
